early hemi 1/4 mile e.t. naturally aspirated-anyone ?

Post by oldngood »

Has anyone on this NG run a naturally aspirated early Hemi down the 1/4 mile, if so what was your e.t. ?

looking online for e.t. of a typical street-type pump gas buildup, I can't find anything- all I find is e.t. for blown nitro dragsters from a long time ago- interesting and cool, but not the type of engine I want to build

intuition tells me one of these should go 12-13 second zone with pump gas, making 425-475 HP, in a 3600-4000 lb. car ?

Here you go. My 392 is 10.0 to 1 comp., stock heads, shorty headers, Hot Heads single four intake with a Holley 750 Vac. sec. carb, and hyd. flat tappet cam w/ .484 lift and 284 dur. (230 @ .050). It's in a 70 Cuda weighing in at 3750 lbs. with me in it. It has a TF727 w/ a 3500 stall converter, 4.10 posi, and 28"x10.5" MT slicks. At the local track, which is at 4300 ft. elev. it has run a best of 13.72 @ 99 MPH. At S.I.R. in Tucson, which is at 3000 ft. elev. and much better starting line prep it ran 13.50 @ 101 MPH right off the trailer. I only got to make 3 passes there that day as it started to rain, and I haven't made it back.

My very mild 392 (stock except for the re-ground cam) in a '34 Plymouth coupe would run high 12's on street tires with traction being my limiting factor. Iron torqueflite, 3.91 Posi - 2 - 450 CFM carbs = approximately 5,000 rpm through the lights. 10:1

My digger injected on alky has just gone 9.66 (only made a handful of passes so far) - again VERY mild motor - .030" over 392, Mild hyraulic cam, gotha rockers, 3/8" pushrods, Stock rods, stock crank, Stock timing chain, Stock "555" 331 heads - stock valves, but with bigger springs, no porting, no polishing, no gasket matching. Vertex mag and Hilborn stck injector(both ebay items) 2 speed 'glide, 3.89 rear - 12" slicks - 3,000 stall. approximately 6,000 through the lights. 10:1

Mine has gone 13.9.
'57 392 with 2 x 500 Edelbrocks, iron torqueflite, 2.7 gears and 30'' tires in a glass 34 coupe. I haven't weighed it but I would expect around 2700lbs.

thanks for all the replies, haven't checked the thread for a while, since then I've sold all my 331's, obviously the 392 is the one to build for max power naturally aspirated- so now I'm keeping my eye peeled for a 392

problem is, those are the hardest to find at a good price, and the most expensive
