What would be the clearance between gears and cover? Everything I read says make sure there's not too much clearance but nowhere do I find what is a good clearance, in real numbers.
This is a stock 392 pump.
yeah I know alot of peep say just replace the pump with a 340, but then I also read some complaints about the shaft size not quite fitting in some cases.
Thanks

Re: Oil Pump Gear Clearance?
In the 354 pumps I prefer .001/.002 clearance between the gears and cover plate. I'd think a 392 pump should be about the same. Be careful, check EACH tooth on both gears as they may differ and, be VERRY careful, if you sand/grind the housing, to keep it square. I use an expanding mandrel thru the shaft hole and chuck it in my Bridgeport. You'd be amazed how out of square they can be.

Thanks Chuck, I'll watch out for that.
