Questions about adjustable rocker arms

Post by DavidBraley »

Hello all!

I'm completely new to the whole first generation Chrysler Hemi world.

I've been reading, reading and doing even more reading on the subject. Been studying Tex Smith's "The Complete Chrysler Hemi" book like it was the bible. Purchased Bob Walkers (Hot Heads) "Hemi Engine Data" book for an absolutely amazing collection of serial and part numbers for these early engines. This data book by the way is a must have! Very helpful if you are building an engine from just parts like I am. I have also been reading hundreds of threads over at the HAMB on the early hemi. But alas, I'm still not getting some hard answers to some of my questions. The internet is a fantastic place, but it's full people who only think they are experts.

I recently stumbled across two complete sets of adjustable rocker arms (enough for two engines). The person I purchased them from did not know for sure what they where for, so I was able to get them for a very low price (his asking price). To say I feel fortunate is an understatement. :o

I'm hoping the guru's here will know the answer to these questions. Please excuse my ignorance. :D

1. Are the rocker arm sets for the Chrysler 331, 354, and 392 interchangeable? (from my research I'm guessing this is "Yes", but for some crazy reason, some people are saying the 392 is different somehow, so I'm not 100% sure)

2. Are the adjustable rocker arm sets between the Chrysler Industrial, Marine, or 300 series the same also? (from my research I'm also guessing this is "Yes", but I've never run across this question in my research before, so again, I'm not 100% sure)

Thanks in advance everyone for your time.

All the factory adjustable rocker arms I've seen were off 300 series Chrysler engines. The 300 series includes 354 and 392 engines.

The answer to both questions is "yes"'. The adjustable rockers
are interchageble, regardless of whether they originaly came
from a 331, a 354, or a 392 - and as far as that goes, regardless
of whether they're from a marine, heavy truck, industrial, or
a Chrysler 300 engine too. You're good to go! :)

Thank you so much Mart! I had a feeling the answer to both questions was yes, but I needed to get confirmation from the source. 8)

Thanks guys!

Just be sure to use either a set of factory "dimpled" covers,
or some ''taller than stock" aftermarket covers to clear the
adjustable rockers....but I'm sure you already knew that! :)

By the way.....if you don't have a pair and you're looking for
the dimpled covers, besides the rare and spendy "Chrysler
300'" hi-po passemger car engines, all of the 331-354 marine
engines had solid-lifters and adjustable rockers and came
with the dimpled covers. Oddly too though - the dimpled
covers also came on *all* 331 and 354 industrial engines (or
at least every one I've ever come across) - whether they
they had soilid lifters and adjustable rockers or not....and
lots of the industrial engines didn't!
