number question

i have a chance to get this engine . but it is a long drive and i am not sure what it is and if it is worth the money he said it is a 331 . can anyone i d this # for me VT448-1035

VT- 448 is 1956 Dodge Truck. 331 cubic inch early Hemi.

might want to ask if it's a long or short tail block. "Isit worth it" How much is he asking & the block will be a factor in the answer.

If it runs with good comp & doesn't smoke, you might run as is. If you have to rebuild....54/5 or 6 car heads are better than the truck heads. The truck heads have fat valve stems. Those can be replaced with car valves. Some truck heads have the square under carb passage & can use any intake. if tall & narrow you have to use Hot Heads intake or weld up the part that is above the car intake. Replace draft tube with PCV system.If you keep truck heads you'll need a '54 wet 4 bl intake or drill a dry intake for remote thermostat.

I think that yesterday I looked a pair of these heads that were on ebay -- the head casting number was 1632159-1 they sure looked just like these! and the description of the heat risers fit

yeah, that number is the '54-55 truck heads. As I mentioned elsewhere they won't fit your Desoto(unless you have a Chrysler hemi your holding out on telling us about!).
