Brake down or schematic for 1956 354

Post by Hemi8me »

As some of you know, I am building a NE56 that came with 5 hemi's I purchased. Well the 354 was torn down to a short block. I need to see what the other parts look like so I can maybe find them in all these parts I have. This brings the schematic into play. I just got Leo's book so this will help.

Here is a list of what I have:
Block with internals (Crank, cam, rods, main caps were in the block)
Timing chain cover
Water pump (Might reuse after a rebuild)
heads (Getting new valves and guides)
Intake (1637625 4 bbl)

I figure on order new bolts for everything plus:
timing chain and gears (Always put new in.
oil pump (Might have this too)
fuel pump (I think I might have the old one)

Things I need to find:
Drive gear for Dizzy. (I do not have one) I have found two. I was rust as hell and good for scrap, the other I think is for the 331 as it's in the oil pan with the mains.
Drive for fuel pump. (Need to find, but have no clue as to what it looks like
Flywheel
I bet this list will grow!!!

I think I have a fuelpump eccentric somewhere in my unused parts collection. Its for a 392, if they are interchangable (experts could weigh in on that) you can have it if you don't find yours. Its basically a cup shape with a keyway slot. Also have an oilpump and centersump pickup, again not sure if interchangable.

Can you post a pic? Does it go on the cam shaft or crank? I my have found three but not sure.

I have a couple oil pumps. I need to look up the numbers.

Goes on the cam. Not trying to be a smart butt, but if you don't know where it goes you really need to buy an OEM shop manual off EBay & get to studying engine basics. The 354 has a rear sump pan(usually) The intermediat shaft (dizzy) gear is the same on 331/354/392/318/340. You can use the 318/340 timing chain with a spacer from Hot Heads. Eccentric rim is probably a inch or so wide, with an offset hole near the middle of the item.

'Er, the intermediate shaft assembly (shaft WITH gear) for a 392 has a longer shaft than the 331/354.

If you were commenting on my comment, I was talking gear only, not the shaft.
