392 crankshaft

Post by hemi4711 »

Does anyone know if there is a aftermarket forged crank for the 392?
If not can a 426 hemi crank be made to fit. Thanks

I don't know if there are any aftermarket cranks available for the 392, someone else here like T R Waters may know. You could also check with Bob Walker at www.hothemiheads.com as he would know for sure. The 426 crank won't fit and can't be made to fit because the bore spacing is different.

As said, you may want to get hold of someone like Jr. Thompson. From what I understand tho, even the old race cranks were built up from stock cores.

New cranks are available from several sources. They run in the mid 2500-2600 range. They have always been made.

392 crank

Post by m139 »

Once, at the MOPAR nats I talked to a man with a willys that had a 392 blown nitro motor in it and had been running since the '60's he said it had the stock crank in it at over 2500 hp and that they NEVER HAD BROKEN ONE and that's on nitro methane with ALOT of boost. I must have had a funny look on my face because he laughed and said "Yeah, it's got iron heads stock block and valve train too" He also sain that there wasn't a stronger crank that ever came out of Detroit. P.S. ALL early hemi cranks ARE forged and flame hardened then chemically surface hardened and some were shot-peened as well !

392 Crankshaft - One For Sale

Post by 71ragtopchall »

A buddy of mine owns a machine shop, Ariondo Racing Engines, here in South Florida and happens to have a perfect 392 crank he just asked me to list on Ebay for him. I haven't done so yet because I had no idea how much to start the bidding at. If you are interested, email me. It is a casting # 1673755 crank. It is Standard/Standard and is in top condition. I've got a picture of it too.
