4 or 5 speed tranny?

Post by gahi »

Is there a tranny that will just bolt up to a 354 without the need for an adaptor? With the price of adaptors, it makes you think that there has to be a cheaper way. Wasn't there any motors that came stock with a 4 speed? A 5 speed o/d would be ideal.
Thanks,
Gary

If you can find an early hemi manual trans bellhousing you could run a 4 speed. For automatics the only trans you can run without an adaptor would be one of the early cast iron torqueflights which are getting hard to find. If you want something modern you'll have to bite the bullet and buy an adaptor.

Well if you still have the origional aluminum spacer plate

If you have the origional aluminum adapter plate there was a way to make it fit a newer manual bell housing. I have a drawing, but never verified if it can be done.

Good luck!!
