In a cost-cutting move expected to yield a number of benefits, Chrysler Group will shift responsibility for its European distribution and operations to Fiat.
Fiat, which has been a successful player in the European market, will handle pricing and marketing for Chrysler products as well as ensuring each vehicle is in compliance with the regulations for the country in which it will be sold. In addition, Fiat will handle legal services and accounting currently contracted to other companies, including Daimler AG. The goal is to expand Chrysler sales and help Fiat reach the international sales milestone that will allow it to increase its ownership of Chrysler.
Mike Manley, Chrysler’s head of international operations, said,”Europe is the most important region, and this is a good solution because Fiat’s distribution strength is so good.”
