Spied! 2018 Ram HD Facelift

We know an all-new Ram 1500 is coming around 2019, with high expectations to go along with it. What we’ve heard less about are the updates in store for the Ram HD models. By the looks of things, manufacturing of some, if not all, of the HD models may move from Mexico to the U.S. with the next full redesign, which probably won’t occur until 2020, if the typical design cycle is an indication. In the meantime, our spy shooter caught a mid-cycle 2018 Ram HD mule out testing. This one was in Power Wagon livery. A sharp eye will note a six-sided grille design similar to the newer 1500 models. The only 1500 model not to follow this pattern is the Rebel, which has a unique four-sided grille with RAM block lettering.

Aside from the styling tweaks, expect more power under the hood, especially for the Cummins I-6 diesel. With the high-water mark among HDs for torque output currently at 925 lb-ft for the Ford Super Duty, don’t be surprised for an updated Cummins to meet or top the 1,000 lb-ft mark. Updates for the Hemi V-8s are unknown, but it’s possible the 5.7L may be dropped from the HD models, making the 6.4L Hemi the sole gas engine offering. Expect to see the refreshed 2018 Ram HD at an upcoming auto show, possibly next month’s Chicago Auto Show.
That's going to be crazy if they do top the Ford with nearly 1,000 lb-ft of torque!
