I found an interesting Car Craft magazine article on line on
building a 685 horsepower - 625 Ft./Lbs. of torque, so-called
"Budget" Hemi using Stage V Engineering hemi conversion
heads and a standard 440 wedge block.

Re: Car Craft 685 hp "Budget" Hemi article
I looked into this several years ago. If you could do most of the machine work yourself and had a 440 block then maybe. But by the time I got all the machine work done and acquired a block and transported it to and fro...well it seems more appropriate to spend 2500 on a hemi block if you're going to do your own build. I realize some will have to acquire all the parts over time to make it doable. And there will be some who want to build their own anyway. It is a trick way to get there tho.
