Houston Raceway Park is the selected venue for the San Jacinto Tea Party
rally scheduled for July 1. Thousands of area patriots are expected to
assemble at the park on Wednesday evening, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., to
participate in the pre-Independence Day rally.

"We are excited about hosting the San Jacinto Tea Party Patriots for
this occasion," said Seth Angel, general manager of Houston Raceway
Park. "This is a great family event for the entire community." San
Jacinto Tea Party encompasses Baytown, Highlands, La Porte, Channelview,
and all of the surrounding communities, according to Steve Pike, the
organization's chairman. Rising out of the grassroots movement that has
swept across the country, the San Jacinto Tea Party is a non-partisan
local organization that promotes commonly-held core values. The platform
of the movement includes "free market capitalism, fiscally responsible
government, limited federal government, and protected sovereign rights
of state and local governments in response to the will of the people."

Speakers confirmed for the rally include U.S. Congressman Ted Poe, State
Senator of District 7 Dan Patrick, and Houston businessman Jim
McIngvale. Other local speakers will update citizens about current
events related to taxation and protection of individual rights. "It is
time for Americans, regardless of other political views, to stand
together on these traditional values and take back our nation," Chairman
Pike stated. "We invite all American patriots throughout the area to
join us to celebrate our freedom and to learn how we can work together
to get our nation turned around." Pike said the organization enjoys the
support of many area businesses and individuals and invites others who
would like to join in sponsorship. More information is available
through the organization's website, www.sanjacintoteaparty.org.

San Jacinto Tea Party Patriots are planning other events during the
year. The group welcomes volunteers to help organize future events and
further the message of the Patriots. "This is our way of exercising our
right to speak out about issues that are at the heart of American
traditions. There are a lot of us; we just haven't been a very loud
voice. But now people are seeing that you can't just sit back and hope
something will change. We have to do something about it. That is the
message of the Tea Party, the power of the people," Pike said.
