This weekend’s Mopars at the Strip at Las Vegas is shaping up to be another great event for Chrysler fanatics. Up today is the first round of qualifying of strong field of SS/AH competitors for the prestigious HEMI Shootout.

Among those in the LVMS pits are Stephen Hebert Cuda from West Lake, LA; Texan Gary Moore; Chuck Rayburn from Castro Valley, CA; Southern Californian Rick Houser in Gary Hansen’s 4-speed Cuda; Mike Booker from Davenport, WA, in his '68 Barracuda; Houma Lousiana’s veteran Joe Teuton and Tim Hebert; Jon Percy’s Barracuda; Gary Wolkwitz in his “Earthquake” Cuda and the West Coast Hemi cars of Michael Ogburn and Rachel Erin Ogburn… quite a gathering!

At noon Friday there’ll be the first round of a best of three nitro funny car match race between Smokey Alleman’s Challenger and Mike McCain’s “Nitro Angel” for bragging rights.

There’s something for every MOPAR enthusiast with a late model Hemi classes, Nostalgia Super Stockers, street machines and the growing Pony Car Wars for late model Camaros, Challengers and Mustangs. There will also be a huge party and car show at the Cannery Hotel and Casino on Saturday night.

The event runs through Sunday at the Strip at Las Vegas. For event schedule and tickets go to: www.matslv.com. [04/13/12]
