301 FireDome Info

Post by scottm »

I am looking for info on the 301 DeSoto FireDome Hemi.
I have reason to believe this engine was produced for a
short time, but I do not have any firm details. If anyone
has a lead for more info, please pass it along to me!

301 DeSoto? Chrysler made a few 51 301 Firepowers. DeSoto made the 291 which was popular in most 300 cubic inch limit class racing, and could be bored right around 300-301C.I. The next size bigger DeSoto Hemi was the 330. Dean

So Chrysler did produce a few 301 Hemis in 1951?
Was it only in 1951? Is this documented anywhere?

The 354 is a 331 with a larger bore. What is a 301?
Even smaller bore than the 331? Any more details?

I would love to add it to my Hemi database if I can
confirm some info. Serial pad values would be nice.

No such thing as a 301 DeSoto hemi. Chrysler made a 301-cid poly for the Chrysler Windsor in 1955. The 331 had a 3.81" bore while the 301 used a 3.63" bore.

DeSoto hemis came as 276 (1952-54); 291 (1955); 330 (1956); 341 (1956-57) and 345 (1957).

If you put .060 oversize pistons in a 291 you would get 301 cid.
