Extremely. The aluminum case A904 Torqueflite did not arrive until the 1960 model year and the aluminum case A727 Torqueflite in 1962. The only automatic available in a 1956 DeSoto, the 2-speed Powerflite, had a cast-iron case.

INTerestING! So both of those transmission will bolt up to a 330? I am to go look at one for sale. That means the '56 Desoto has a Tranny transplant. Well, thats better than one thats broke I guess. Thanks for the info.
