Are early Dodge hemi/poly crankshafts prone to breakage ?

Post by oldngood »

20 years ago I worked at a garage, and the owner told me a story about racing a Dodge D-500 in the late 1950's-early 60's

if memory serves, he said the cranks used to break in the Dodge engines

well I recently bought a 325 poly Dodge engine 1957, and noticed today, the crank snout it pointing crooked out of the front cover- balancer is off engine

I didn't have time to pull front cover/oil pan today, but I will tomorrow- and I'm expecting this crank to be broken between #1 and #2 main bearings

are the early Dodge cranks prone to breakage ? The Tex Smith book mentions 270 cranks breaking, but not 325's- this is a code KD5 325 1957 Super Red Ram poly engine

opinions ?
