315 Block and oil pan

Post by Chiz What Is »

I just came across a 315 std bore block and oil pan the other day with the numbers L8D3-4363. I am not sure if the oil pan is the right one for this block because it has a notch (bump) on the side for what I suspect is for the dip stick however I cannot find any provisions on the block for a dip stick or a hole like the 354/392s. Could some one enlighten me and if this is the wrong pan, what pans will fit this block?

I doubt I can help much.I have a L8D4 Out in the garage I could dig it out tomorrow but I don't know if the info would help or not. It's been so long since i've looked at it I don't remember where the dipstick is located.

Thankyou John for your reply. Let me save you the trouble. On checking out the pictures of a previous post, I can see that the dip stick is located in the timing case cover.

Are you positive you had the pan on backwards?
Are you absolutely sure?? Maybe the pan was
on the right way.....but you had the block on
backwards instead!!!!! <LOL!> :D :D

Oh Gee Mart you really know how to hurt a guy :( But you know things could have been worse; I could have driven for four hours to find out that the pan was on backwards
