Somebody posted on the H.A.M.B. looking for
a new, not reground camshaft for his high-deck
Desoto hemi and was wondering who, if anybody
had or made new camshaft cores for these
engines. Somebody mentioned that a guy named
Donnie Johansen had new cores in stock. Several
posts later Johansen himself posted with the name
and phone number for his company - 'Contreras
Camshafts'. It turns out he makes brand new cams
for early Chrysler, Dodge and DeSoto hemis, in just
about any configuretion and for just about
any application.

I haven't been able to get ahold of Conterras cams, although Don Johansan has been grinding cams for Hot Heads. I got a roller for my 341 Desoto hemi, but the base circle is so small that the lifters won't reach all the way down the lifter hole. They hang on the cross bars. Am looking for longer lifters if they are available. The ones I am using are for a 318. Johansan says that's what they use, but now I'm somewhat skeptical. :-?

318 are the ones that work, just the right space for the cross bars. Lifter holes are too close together on the Dodge, and too far apart for the Chrs. Sounds like you received a regrind that has too much ground off.
