Car of the day: '70 HEMI Dodge Challenger
http://www.sunherald.com/2010/10/08/253 ... e-day.html
What’s it got?: 426 Hemi engine stroked to 480 c.i.d., Dana 60 rear end with 3.55:1 gears, 850 CFM Demon carburetor, Ray Barton intake manifold, Indy cylinder heads, four-link suspension with coil over shocks and tubular A-arms, six-speed Viper manual transmission, front and rear Wilwood disc brakes, custom instrument cluster, tilt steering, Vintage Air A/C, carbon-fiber pistol-grip shifter, custom audio system, custom Foose wheels, T/A clone package with hood, rear spoiler, and reflective black racing stripe. Paint is PPG Envirobase bright silver metallic with PPG matte black hood.

What have you done to it?: Flavian and his son Stephen did just about all the work themselves. The car was in such rough shape when they started, it took 2 years to rebuild from the ground up. Handling the monster racing engine required help from David Lender of Mobile, but other than that, Flavian said probably his favorite thing about this car is it was a “father-son project.” The two also recently completed a Chevy Bel Air restoration in classic mid-’50s creampuff style.

How fast is it?: With 723 horsepower, it’s just about as fast as you want it to be. Flavian said top speed is around 200 mph — but he wouldn’t advise that unless you’ve got your pilot’s license. “It will do 160 easy,” he said, “with quarter-miles around 10.80 no problem.”

A Chip Foose favorite: Flavian was recently invited to a very special car show, The Braselton Bash, by none other than Chip Foose of TLC’s hit show “Overhaulin’.” Foose personally invited Flavian and 99 other drivers and their cars to attend the Atlanta-area charity event, and during the show Foose autographed the Challenger’s breather. The one-day show raised more than $100,000 for the Progeria Research Foundation. Progeria is a rare genetic disease that causes children to age at an extremely accelerated rate. What was Foose like? “He’s a great guy, and you could tell this was something near and dear to his heart,” Flavian said. “We were glad to be a part of it.”
This is a really nice Challenger!
