A Mopar Worth Featuring
1967 Dodge Charger

What does it take for a Mopar to be featured in PHR? It doesn’t hurt if it’s really bitchin’!

We don’t usually give sneak peeks of the cars we plan on featuring months down the road, but this (mostly completed) ’67 Dodge Charger by Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop in Gadsden, AL is the rare exception. As we’ve mentioned before here, the Mopar hobby as a whole really clings to the whole restoration/drag race scene, so it’s far more rare to see a seriously modernized or highly functional handling car than with the Chevy or Ford camps. Seth Wagner’s ’67 Charger, however, dares to go where most Mopar owners don’t: the Pro Touring route. It’s Magnaforce IFS and triangulated four-link rear replaces the antiquated stock suspension, and Viper calipers on Wilwood 14-inch discs get those Billet Specialties Bonneville-G wheels (18x9 and 19x12) stopped in a hurry. In the engine room, a 528ci Ray Barton Hemi is the only thing that could do this piece justice, and it powers a Bowler-prepped 4L80E overdrive automatic.

We have builder Alan Johnson to thank for the exquisite end product, which is a rarity in the Mopar world. Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop has previously won the Street Machine Of The Year award (with Bob Johnson’s g-Force Cuda) and the Ridler Award (with Doug Cooper’s B-400 Deucenberg), so you know you’re in for a special treat when the April 2012 issue of PHR hits the stand with Seth Wagner’s ’67 Charger.
Too bad they didn't post engine photos!
