For those who believe stock just isn’t enough, Dodge announced three performance kits for the Charger Redline at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.
Stage I is mostly aesthetic upgrades, adding a carbon-fiber front lip, door scoops and rear spoiler. A matte-black vinyl wrap on the roof further peppers the Charger Redline, as do black-face 20 x 8-in. wheels. Redline paint, a painted grille (with black inserts) and heritage “R/T” badging round out the exterior changes. The interior receives aluminum accents and stainless-steel pedal covers.
Stage II is where the performance improvements begin with the addition of a Mopar cat-back exhaust, front strut tower brace and high-performance Mopar brake pads.
Things get serious with Stage III. The heavy cast-iron Hemi V-8 is swapped for an aluminum Gen III High Output 426 Hemi that’s 100 lb. lighter. The crankshaft, H-beam rods and 11:1 pistons are all forged, and a revised windage tray ensures proper oiling. With aggressive cams (.639 intake, .628 exhaust) and cylinder heads with improved flow, the Stage III Charger Redline produces 590 bhp, 220 more than the standard 2012 Dodge Charger R/T.
