6.2L Supercharged "HellCat" Hemi For 014MY
http://www.challengertalk.com/forums/f5 ... 4my-89565/
The long rumored 6.2L Supercharged Hemi, nicknamed "HellCat" will debut in the Summer of 2013 for the 2014MY. It will be based on the 6.1 Hemi - with a possible Aluminum Block - and displacing approximately 375 CID (6.2L). Horsepower output will be around 600 HP plus/minus with cylinder head technology developed for/and used on the current 392 Hemi due to its excellent flow numbers will be applied.

Boost (psi) to deliver the approximate 600 HP - plus/minus - stock would be in the 9 to 15 psi range to deliver the horsepower/torque numbers. Currently Chevy/Cadilliac uses 9psi to develop 580 HP in their 6.2L SC V8s and the Ford 5.8 SC V8 uses 15 psi to deliver 662 HP in their 2013-14 GT500. Expect 9 or 10 psi for stock boost giving the aftermarket plenty of room to mod up to 15 psi. A modded "HellCat" should out-horsepower the 5.8 SC GT500 due to the fact that you cannot change both pulleys - like on the 5.4 (2007-12) models. Even Shelby SuperSnakes (2013MY) with the Stage 1 setup (5.8 ) doesn't touch the Ford factory setup. The entire SC is replaced to deliver 850 HP (Stage 2).

Internals will be highly upgraded, as well as the remainder of the drivetrain to handle the horsepower/torque requirements. Direct Injection and other measures will be applied to deliver MPG, with possible Rear End Gear Ratios being lowered as well for 6speed cars from 3.92 to 3.64 range.

For transmissions - a 6speed Manual and either a 5 or 8 speed (still possible) for automatic cars. Nothing yet is totally confirmed on the remainder of the drivetrain upgrade. However, look for the SRT 6.2 SC "HellCat" package to be in the same ballpark as the ZL1 and GT500.
SRT, bring it on! Maybe the HEMI for the new HEMI 'Cuda?

Supercharged-6.2 Hemi coming soon?
http://www.allpar.com/news/index.php/20 ... oming-soon
Months ago, sources told Allpar about a new Hemi V8 coming down the pike for SRT cars; set to debut in the SRT Barracuda, which at the time we believed was either a replacement for the Challenger or an SRT variant of the Challenger (the latter still seems likely), the “HellCat” V8 will go up against supercharged Ford and GM powerplants.

While Chrysler has made numerous turbocharged engines — mainly 2.2 or 2.5 liter four-cylinders, but also two completely different 2.4 liter four-cylinders for SRT cars — this will be both the company’s first supercharged production engine, and their first forced-induction V8. It will reportedly include the cylinder-deactivation technology which debuted in the 5.7 Hemi and is now in the SRT 6.4 Hemi.

According to Ontario Street Car, we can now expect the engine to be sold this summer, with production starting in April. The name follows aviation history, with the 392 Hemi called Apache and the variable-cam-equipped 5.7 called Eagle. The 5.7 Hemi and 6.4 Hemi are also both rumored to be getting power updates.

While most online sources are claiming 600 horsepower for the new engine, estimates of power for new mills is often grossly overstated on rumor sites, and we expect a much more modest 500-570 horsepower. That is well above the 6.4 liter V8’s 470-475 horsepower, though far less than the output of the Mustang GT500 and Corvette ZR1, which will likely also continue to have far higher price tags.

While originally intended for an SRT Barracuda, which is now less likely to be HellCat’s debut car, the engine is also destined for the SRT versions of the Charger, Challenger, and 300C. Rumors on the Barracuda still swirl with the original “Challenger based” reports on one hand, and the smaller D-RWD platform on the other. Some believe the next-generation Challenger will be on an eight-inch-shorter body to cut weight.
Apache = 5.7 HEMI
Eagle = 6.4 HEMI
HellCat = 6.2 HEMI Supercharged

6.2 Hemi to be “Z28 challenger”?
http://www.allpar.com/news/index.php/20 ... challenger
As the supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi gets closer to being a production reality, blogs have been falling over themselves in their discovery of a new “Z28 challenger” (as in a car planned to challenge the Chevrolet Camaro Z28). The supercharged Hemi has, however, long been in development, with discussions at Allpar going back (at the latest) to early 2012. Reliable source oh20 confirmed this engine as a production option in January 2013.

Equipped with the supercharged Hemi, the Dodge Challenger would be much better equipped to go up against the best Chevrolet can offer, despite the Camaro’s smaller size. The engine would also be used in Charger and possibly in the rumored SRT Barracuda, which could either be a reskinned Challenger or a new car sharing much of its body with an upcoming Alfa Romeo.
The new Camaro Z28 is expected to offer at least 500-hp and over 1G cornering.

Supercharged HEMI delayed
http://www.allpar.com/news/index.php/20 ... mi-delayed
The much-rumored 6.2 Hemi will be pushed back until next year, debuting in the 2015 SRT Challenger when it debuts on its new “LA” platform, according to reliable source oh20. The platform change from Challenger’s current LC setup was spurred by the availability of the eight-speed automatic, which reportedly won’t fit into Challenger as it stands. The Challenger continues to use the Mercedes-design WA580 transmission.

Ralph Gilles said that the 2015 Challenger will debut in March 2014, at the LX Club’s Springfest in California. It will then meet the mainstream media in New York City in April 2014, at which point all the official statistics will likely be unveiled. Production is not slated until July 2014, and given the status of many recent projects, may be delayed until August or September 2014. Even after production starts, availability will be limited for months.

In addition, Mr. Gilles reported that Barracuda would appear in two years, confirming Allpar’s prior reporting that it would be the “mystery SRT” slated for 2016 in the most recent plan. Though there has been no confirmation of this, we believe the Barracuda will not be a version of Challenger, but a completely different car, sharing powertrains but on the new D-RWD platform shared with Alfa Romeo. Chrysler-Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has publicly said that the Alfa would not be possible without the Dodge to spread the investment; it is possible that we may see the first divergence of names here, if they keep the Avenger name for the Dodge and use Barracuda for the SRT. It seems more likely, though, that we may see the first Dodge Barracuda.

Names have migrated brands in the past, with Chrysler Laser moving to Plymouth Laser (completely different cars), Plymouth Prowler becoming a Chrysler, Plymouth Voyager sold in Europe as Chrysler Voyager, and Plymouth Satellite Sebring eventually re-appearing as Chrysler Sebring (completely different cars).
I can't wait for a 2015 Blown HEMI Challenger and 2016 Blown HEMI 'Cuda! :D

6.2 Hellcat: serious power boost
http://www.allpar.com/news/index.php/20 ... ower-boost
llpar sources are claiming that the “Hellcat” Hemi coming up in the next year or two, the supercharged 6.2 V-8 engine to be built alongside the 5.7 and SRT 6.4, will boast a serious power boost, with 550-640 horsepower expected.

There has been no word yet on what technologies the new engine will bring, other than a supercharger, which will also help high-altitude acceleration for those thrilling mountain chases. Its first use is expected to be in a relaunched 2015 Dodge Challenger, on the new LA platform (which was originally to spawn an SRT Barracuda), released sometime next year — Chrysler’s usually optimistic schedule has an unveiling in March 2014, with reliable source oh2o marking down July 2014 as the production start date. The SRT Barracuda might still end up with the 6.2, but Barracuda will not be based on the “L” cars.

One of the primary goals of the LA platform is to allow Challenger to finally use the hot eight-speed automatic already in the Grand Cherokee, Durango, 300, and Charger; the company’s most sporty mainstream car currently remains somewhat hindered by a five-speed automatic. Ralph Gilles has been quoted as saying that the Challenger would get major changes inside and out, which may annoy prospective buyers who love the car’s exterior looks, but want something more inside (and that eight-speed). It will almost certainly get the next-generation electronics — UConnect 2, Cross Path detection, enhanced parking assistance, UConnect via Mobile, automatic tweets from various car parts to other parts (@FrontCamera: get a load of that bumper sticker!), and whatever else can be shoved in without making the car uncontrollable.

Even as the 6.4 Hemi gets a more powerful companion in the 6.2, oh2o believes it will spawn a less powerful, heavy-duty unit for the Ram Heavy Duty pickup; while the 6.4 truck engine is not expected to be a big seller, it will drop the price of the entry-level Ram HD and make it easier to compete against Ford and Chevy.

Supercharged 6.2 Hemi: “HellCat V8”
http://www.allpar.com/mopar/hemi/hellcat.html
The supercharged 6.2 Hemi is due to be shown early in calendar year 2014, with an estimated (by us) 640-680 horsepower. It will have MDS (with the automatic transmission, not the manual) and will use a clutched pulley for the supercharger. This engine, used only by SRT, will be available alongside the much less expensive 6.4 Hemi, which is also due for an update.

We have been told by several sources that the internal target is 700 hp, and while we don’t believe the target will be reached when they get around to publishing SAE net figures, it’s beginning to look as though it’ll at least be in the mid-600s for horsepower. It will be hooked up to a manual transmission in Dodge Challenger, and an eight-speed automatic in Challenger and Charger; we’re estimating a peak of 640 pound-feet to stay within the 900 Nm capacity of the 8HP90.

“fargo59” wrote that it shares heads with the Apache SRT 6.4 Hemi engine, which may also indicate a large bore, short stroke design (6.4 is 4.090” bore, 6.1 was 4.055”). A 4.090” bore with a 3.58” stroke would be 376 cubic inches, or 6.16 liters. “A 6.4 with a forged 5.7 crankshaft would give the right dimensions and be relatively easy to work; a shorter stroke is also going to give the idea rod to stroke ratio and make it a high revving engine.” Cams are also reportedly similar to the 6.4 design.

“Danno” wrote, “Air comes in through the front of the blower, and is compressed upwards, goes through runners, makes a 180° turn, and goes straight down through the four heat exchangers (one for each pair of cylinders), then into the intake ports. The fog lights have been replaced by vents for the low-temperature oil/coolant radiators; an opening in the wheel well lets the air flow out. One side is an oil cooler the other side is coolant. The coil covers say ‘supercharged HEMI.’”

The engine is slated to appear in the 2015 Charger, 2015 Challenger, and possibly a new SRT Ram 1500. The intent is to compete against ZL1, ZR1, GT500, and Z28.
Anyone getting excited yet? 8)

SRT’s ‘Hellcat’ Supercharged HEMI May Be More Powerful Than Viper V-10
http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1091 ... viper-v-10
Dodge is set to introduce a mild update for its Challenger for the 2015 model year, an update that's expected to include the addition of a new supercharged HEMI V-8 for the range-topping SRT model. The new supercharged HEMI V-8, which has been nicknamed the Hellcat, is believed to be a 6.2-liter unit, and according to some recent comments from SRT boss Ralph Gilles it may just be more powerful than the 640-horsepower V-10 in the Viper supercar.

"We have a situation where, you know-- we may have a situation--where the flagship car is not the most powerful car in our arsenal,” Gilles told Hot Rod magazine. “So we have an internal horsepower race as well as an external one."

The Challenger SRT with the Hellcat will likely be a special model, similar to the 2014 Chevrolet Z/28 which is priced at $75k. This means pricing will probably fall well north of even the Challenger SRT 392’s $46k starting price, which makes sense if the car ends up the most powerful in SRT’s lineup.

The good news is that the mighty mill is expected to end up in other SRT products. Let’s hope one of them is a hardcore Viper developed along the lines of the GTS-R racing version; such a car might just be the ticket to dethroning the 2015 Corvette Z06 in the American supercar wars.

Stay tuned for an update.
A HEMI with more power than a Viper? That would be interesting!

TorqueNews Exclusive: This Might Be the First Picture of the SRT Challenger Hellcat Hemi
http://www.torquenews.com/106/torquenew ... llcat-hemi
While some images have caught what is believed to be the new Hellcat Hemi under the hood of a Dodge Challenger test mule, this image appears to be the first full engine image that we have seen of Chrysler’s new 600+ horsepower supercharged Hemi.
Image
This image comes from our friend The Mopar Man and it shows what looks to be the first clear shot we have seen of the supercharger Hellcat Hemi that will soon power the SRT variants of the new Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger. There is no additional information as to where this image came from before being shipped to The Mopar Man by the unnamed source, but based on what we have seen in spyshots floating around the web of the next SRT Challenger with the hood up – this certainly looks like the same engine.

This isn’t the best picture in the world, but every detail that I can see leads me to believe that this is the Dodge Challenger Hellcat Hemi sitting on one of the carts that plant workers would use to move the engine around the facility with the automated system. Right in the middle of the screen is a massive radiator and air conditioning system condenser and behind that wall of silver is the front of the supercharged Hellcat Hemi.

At the top, you can see the unique roots style supercharger hovering above a set of Hemi Orange valve covers with the black coil pack covers mounted over each of the spark plugs while a tubular exhaust manifold is tucked neatly against the side of the engine block as it channels the exhaust towards the left side of the picture.

Now, there is no guarantee that this is the SRT Challenger Hellcat Hemi or if this is even a Chrysler engine at all.

However, it most certainly looks like a modern Chrysler Hemi painted up and topped by the same supercharger that we have seen in underhood spyshots. As for the setting, the large plastic bins in the background look like the type of item you see sitting around an assembly facility, as does the apparatus on which this engine is sitting. Of course, with test cars running around with this drivetrain and the new Challengers having been introduced in New York, there is a good chance that the Brampton Ontario Assembly Plant would be building test cars in house and with so many people in and out of that plant all day with cell phone cameras – I would guess that someone snapped a quick picture of the new monster Hemi. Then again, this image could have been taken months ago and it was just now sent to The Mopar Man... but its definitely an interesting image for Mopar fans waiting for the new super Hemi.

Also in this image is what appears to be the exhaust for either a Dodge Charger, a Dodge Challenger or a Chrysler 300 along with a rear braking assembly for one of those vehicles. The brake rotors look large, but the calipers do not and the rotors seem fairly average so I don’t believe that the components in front of the radiator belong to a Hellcat Hemi powered car. They might – but I expect that the Challengers and Chargers with the 600+ horsepower engine will have a higher end rear braking system.

It has become a bit of a mystery as to when the Hellcat Hemi will arrive in the new Dodge Challenger. It was widely expected that the 2015 or 2016 SRT Challenger would debut in New York earlier this month, but with the introduction of the new models having come and gone with no mention of the new supercharged engine, we are left wondering when this new Hemi will be formally introduced.
More fuel for the fire about the potential HellCat HEMI... 8)

Dodge Challenger Hellcat Spotted with Viper-Style Hood Scoop
http://wot.motortrend.com/1404_dodge_ch ... scoop.html
A Dodge Challenger “Hellcat” prototype with very minimal camouflage was spotted with a SRT Viper-like hood scoop. The latest prototype sports the same revised front and rear lighting treatment as the refreshed 2015 Dodge Challenger shown at the 2014 New York auto show earlier this month.

Last fall, a Challenger Hellcat prototype was spotted, reportedly with a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V-8 under the hood. While power numbers haven’t been disclosed, the supercharged mill is expected to make a Viper-like 640 hp, though rumors suggest the engine is capable of more power. Other rumors suggest that the Hellcat name won’t be used on the production version of the super Challenger. While the prototype features “392 Hemi” fender badges, bits of camo covering a small portion of the grille and center of the taillights suggest the automaker is concealing the high-performance model’s trim name.

With its newfound power, the Challenger Hellcat will be better able to compete with the 580-hp Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 (powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V-8) and the 662-hp Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 with its supercharged 5.8-liter V-8. As with the Viper, we expect the Challenger Hellcat’s hood scoop to be functional for a ram-air intake system and venting under-hood heat.
