First DNF at Engine Masters 2014: 402ci Gen III Hemi from Red Rocket Engine Company
http://blogs.hotrod.com/402ci-gen-iii-h ... 45281.html
Late-model Mopar muscle is defined by the Gen III Hemi, and there is no questioning that these engines respond to traditional hot rodding. Daniel Boshears brought a fine example, a 5.7 version beefed by replacing the 3.58-inch stroke factory crank with a 4.125-inch Molnar piece. Good stuff, including a fully ported set of factory “Eagle” cylinder heads, a Ritter single four barrel intake, and a 0.637-inch lift Lunati cam. Daniel’s engine was one to watch.

But misfortune struck quickly. As the hot Hemi was ready to display its real potential against the dyno during qualifying on Day 3 of the Amsoil Engine Masters Challenge, a sudden clanking in the valvetrain indicated trouble. With the valve covers pulled the whole story became clear: the rocker shaft fasteners had pulled the threaded stands right off the head. This one will have wait to do battle another day, exiting the ring at the 2014 Engine Masters Challenge as our first DNF at Engine Masters 2014.
