You're looking at one of the biggest showstoppers at last year's SEMA Show in Las Vegas. It's a 1958 Jeep FC-170 pickup truck with a set of tracks and some killer paint.

Tracked vehicles have become so common that we are starting to ask ourselves if this is becoming a trend. Even Ken Block, the famed hooning specialist, has one based on his SVT Raptor.

This little guy is different because it's one of the trucks people know very little about. FC stands for Forward Controls, and this vehicle maximizes the size of the bead for this short a frame by putting the driver right over the front wheels. The Cab Over Engine design was used by similar Ford models in the 50s.

This little guy sits on top of Daystar tracks and a suspension system fitting for an alpine expedition. What's amazing is that it was finished in a matter of only six months and yet still managed to impress everybody at the SEMA show.

Back in the day, these trucks were powered by 80 horsepower 4-cylinder engines mounted at the front and linked to 3-speed transmissions and twin Dana axles. Those bits have been swapped out in favor of a 5.7-liter HEMI engine, a 5-speed transmission, ventilated disk brakes and lots of other shiny new pieces.

Custom goodies also include a Toyota power steering system, a deeper-than-stock bed, flared arches and some awesome side pods. Daystar mechanics also managed to squeeze an air-conditioning system into the factory heater area.
I would like to show up at the lake with this towing my boat. :)
