Diablosport Takes the Hellcat Dodge Challenger, Charger to 700rwhp

The tuning experts at Diablosport have finally finished their packages for the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger with the 6.2L Hellcat Hemi – lifting the wheel horsepower up over the 700 horsepower mark at the push of a button.

Since the 707 horsepower Hellcat Hemi was first introduced in the 2015 Dodge Challenger and later in the 2015 Dodge Charger, there have been small shops around the country working with owners to unlock extra power via the vehicle’s engine computer system. We have seen impressive results via these custom dyno tunes, but curiously, we haven’t seen any of the big tuning companies offering a package for the most powerful American production car ever – until now.

The folks at Diablosport announced yesterday that their tuning package for the Dodge Challenger and Charger with the supercharged 6.2L Hellcat Hemi is now available, offering owners the chance to add over 30 horsepower and 30lb-ft of torque at the wheels to their high performance Dodge by doing nothing more than hooking up to their OBDII port under the dash.

Diablosport Tunes the Hellcat
In the world of aftermarket tuning companies, few have the reach and the success of the folks at Diablosport, so when the Hellcat Hemi-powered Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger began hitting the street late last year, many people expect Diablosport to quickly offered up a tuning package that would lift the output of the supercharged Hemi to even more astronomical levels. However, over the first few months of Hellcat sales, Diablosport – like the rest of the big name tuning companies doing business in the US – remained oddly quiet. Quite a few of the Hellcat Dodge owners Ive met used Diablosport products with their local tuning shop, but the company hadn’t offered up a “canned” tuning package for the Hellcat Challenger or Charger.

In other words, you could essentially use a “blank” tuning product and the help of a tuning shop with the proper equipment to add more power to your Challenger or Charger Hellcat, but the folks at Diablosport didn’t have a package with preset (or canned) engine tunes already loaded to the device until now. Fortunately, it appears to have been well worth the wait – at the Diablosport tuning package unlocks the intricate engine computer of the mighty Hellcat Hemi while adding more than 30 horsepower at the wheels for a total output of 700.2 horsepower.

Just to be clear, the 707 horsepower that Dodge advertises on television is engine horsepower, not power at the wheels. The Diablosport number of 700.2 horsepower is actual power hitting the ground – an increase of more than 30 horsepower.

Diablosport Tuning Packages for the Hellcat
Like many of the Diablosport tuning products, the package for the Hellcat Dodge Challenger and Charger includes three different canned tunes – one that uses the stock PCM tune while modifying other aspects of the vehicle, one that adds a unique engine tune designed for 91 octane and a final one that adds a unique engine tune designed for 93 octane.

The Diablosport tune that works with the stock PCM tune doesn’t add more power, but it can sharpen up throttle response and transmission shifts while also allowing owners to make adjustments for things like different tire sizes, the speed limiter and engine idle speed while also being able to completely disable features like electronic stability control and traction control.

Next up is the 91 Octane Performance tune, which offers all of the adjustments mentioned above, but it also adds a unique engine computer tune that adjusts spark timing and fuel delivery to increase the power output. In this case, Diablosport found that their 91 octane tune adds around 28 horsepower and 20lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels. Considering that the Diablosport Hellcat Challenger test car (automatic transmission) made around 660 horsepower at the wheels, the 91 octane tune would lift the output to roughly 690 rear wheel horsepower.

Those who want the most out of their Diablosport tuning package will almost certainly prefer the 93 Octane Performance Tune, which adds more than 30 rear wheel horsepower and 30lb-ft of rear wheel torque to the Hellcat Challenger and Charger – while also including all of the basic adjustment options. Diablosport found that when adding the 93 octane tune and using figures that have been adjusted for elevation and temperature, their Hellcat Challenger test car laid down an awesome 700.2 rear wheel horsepower and 647.6lb-ft of rear wheel torque. When considering their base numbers of 660 rear wheel horsepower, the 93 octane tune in the proper setting actually adds more than 40 rear wheel horsepower.

Diablosport Needs to Unlock Your PCM

Unlike many tuning products that simply plug into your OBDII port and add more power to your ride, Hellcat Challenger and Charger owners need to take an extra step. In turns out that the PCM in the Hellcat cars (and other modern Chrysler performance vehicles) is locked in a way that prevents the tuning package from properly communicating with the engine computer. To fix this, owners need to remove their PCM and send it to Diablosport for unlocking – at which point these Hellcat owners can use the Diablosport Trinity or inTune products to add the Diablosport tune – and more than 30 rear wheel horsepower – to their monster Mopar muscle car.
