Dodge is secretly developing a faster, more powerful version of the Durango, according to a recent report.

The Durango SRT will receive a naturally-aspirated 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine borrowed from the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. And while performance figures aren't available, the eight-cylinder makes 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque when it's bolted between the Grand Cherokee's fenders. Odds are it will generate the same amount of power in the Durango's engine bay.

The V8 will be bolted to an eight-speed automatic transmission. So far there's no word on whether the Durango SRT will be available with rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, or both.

Our spies in Michigan spotted what looked like a Hellcat-powered Durango (pictured) earlier this year, but it sounds like the project won't move forward after all. Instead, the long-awaited Grand Cherokee Trackhawk will remain the only SUV to receive the Hellcat engine.

The Dodge Durango SRT will make its official debut next year, according to industry trade journal Automotive News. Dodge hasn't commented on the report, so only time will tell whether or not it's accurate. The same report indicates that the standard Durango will get a handful of minor updates inside and out at about the same time.
I think a Durango SRT is cool enough. I won't be disappointed if it's not Hellcat powered.
