Dodge Challenger Hellcat ADR Spied with Wide Tires, without Wide Body

Before the current-generation Challenger coupe is replaced sometime in 2018, Dodge is giving it a little last-minute bump with an all-wheel-drive, non-SRT model and a new wide-body SRT Hellcat variant. The all-wheel-drive Challenger should look like, well, a regular Challenger—snore—but the so-called Challenger ADR should look properly crazy, and this weekend we nabbed a preview of the girthier 707-hp model.
Before we dive into our analysis, yes, these are iPhone photos, and yes, they were taken early on a foggy Michigan morning. Quality aside, the images confirm the small-diameter, wide-cross-section tire treatment (and apparently wider track) we’ve predicted the ADR will have. Essentially, this prototype’s wheel-and-tire package closely resembles that fitted to the Challenger GT AWD concept Dodge displayed at the 2015 SEMA aftermarket show in Las Vegas.
Not visible is the SRT Hellcat’s supercharged Hemi V-8, which carries over unchanged to the ADR and powers the rear wheels. Also missing are the fender flares that will shroud the wide rolling stock on the production model, but at least their absence gives us a good idea of just how much broader in beam the ADR will be relative to a stock Challenger. Forget the hellaflush trend—Dodge is going for the hellawide look. We’re intrigued by the model and look forward to seeing the final product—and seeing if the new footwear delivers any quantifiable performance differences once we get the car to our test track.
I think the wide body Challenger idea is going to be a pretty cool idea.
