Hellcat-Powered, Tube Chassis Prius Unleashed at SEMA 2017

We have come to know the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas as the go-to destination for the wackiest and most over-the-top builds in the industry, but this Prius may just be the most twisted creation we’ve seen to date. Nick Filippides and the crew at American Racing Headers wanted to build something that would ruffle a few feathers and they hit the nail on the head by taking a poster child for environmentalism and turning it into this gas-guzzling monster. This car may be the most politically incorrect car ever built and when Al Gore hears about it we imagine he will be furious, but as a car guy, it’s hard to hate this particular Prius.

Underneath the hood of what used to be a yawn-inducing hybrid powered by what might as well be a toaster oven, now sits a 6.2L Hemi out of a Hellcat topped with a 4.5L Whipple supercharger that is putting out over 800 hp at the tires! A Tremec T56 Magnum six-speed manual routes the power through a DSS carbon fiber driveshaft to a Ford 9-inch stuffed with parts from Mark Williams. This car may be designed to make people laugh, but it is deadly serious with a full chromoly steel tube chassis built by Fark’s Super Cars out of New York that has been equipped with custom coilover suspension from Chris Alston’s Chassisworks.

The list of high-quality parts continues throughout the build with Wilwood disc Brakes on all four corner behind the RC components wheels that are wrapped in Mickey Thompson tires. Instead of rows of batteries in the floor for the go-juice, this Prius now has a Fuel Safe fuel cell equipped with an Aeromotive duel-pump stealth system that feeds the engine a healthy diet of liquid dinosaurs. Inside the car we find a complete interior with a Harry’s Glass fiberglass dash out of a late-model Mustang fitted with Autometer gauges, as well as full carpeting and some comfortable looking race buckets because they built this car to be driven, even going so far as to equip it with AC from Vintage Air.

The whole mindset in building what they have dubbed the PriuSRT8 was to create something fun to drive that would get a rise out of people anywhere they take it, and we think this car fits that bill perfectly. We’re definitely excited to see this thing hit the track in the near future and find out what it’s capable of, but perhaps the best part of this crazy creation is all the humorous graphics that will have you nodding in agreement as you circle this amazing creation.
