Industrial Hemi into a Street motor
Question: What is the difference between an Industrial Hemi and A Street Hemi - I may be able to get an older 315 Hemi (appears to be an industrial) Can I easily turn this into a street motor? Were the blocks different? Or were they just the cams and valves just different for the application?
industrial 315
The Dodge was not used in industrial applications. There were only a few differences in the Chrysler 331-354 between Ind and pass car and make excellent starting point for hot rodding. Truck engines have alot of quirky things that are harder to live with but can be done as many members will attest.
There were Dodge industrials. There was a report of one DeSoto Ind. being found & documented! To use an ind. in a car you have to replace the cam w an automotive one. OEM ind cams were designed to run at a set, usually low, RPM. Check out Doc Fromaders 315 build on webrodder. There is a flat in front of valley cover on the left. if readable what code is on it?
Dodge - Desoto industrials
Although I have been messing with the old Hemi engines for only 25 years or so, one of the consistant problems that I have seen is that of documentation, or lack there of. Has anyone actually seen, touched or photographed a Dodge or Desoto industrial ?? The amount of 'info' that is simply regurgetated from one source to another always lends itself to distortion and very little from Chrysler exists today. As a group, we must strive to eliminate questionable material from continually being passed around lest it become 'fact' simply due to longevity... your thoughts please.
Re: Dodge - Desoto industrials
