Top end Speed

Post by Ritterkreuz »

Just out of curiousity, what is the top end speed for the Hemi Dodge Ram? I'd test it myself, but the High ranking state trooper I know retired and can't make a hefty ticket disapear anymore.

What year? I have an 04 and mine will do 108, but due to gauge lag on rpm and sped, it might actually be 110.

The one I tested the speed limiter on was one of the very first 03's. It was a quad cab (before the RC were even out) 1500 4*4. I guess I will just test mine on the way home tonight and find out for sure.

ASA, did your top end speed drop with your new gears or was it always only that high. With the sc the top speed can be raised to either 120 or 140. I am just wondering if the 456 gears will limit the 140 top speed or if the limiter comes off same sensors as the speedometer and engine is limiting factor?

First get an 03 then use the superchip power programmer. The 04 will not have a programmer out for awhile

what about programming in a different pinion factor to slow the spedo down. ie programming the ecm for a larger tire than actually on the vehicle. this would throw the speedo way off but if the ecm controls the top speed by computed mph should bump up a bit. anyone try this? granted it would be very hard to compare gains in mph since spedo is no longer accurate, but im thinking if its possible, flash my pcm go run against my wife in our ram air trans am to check top speed. sound feasable?

I was just rying to confirm some answers to questions I had about the speed limiter based on tires not engine output. As for the top speed part, some others have seen problems on dynos at around 140 with their tires starting to bubble on the side walls. To trick the computer with the whole tire size thing, others have tried out other tires and rims and the computer recalibrates for it, so not sure if it would work unless you got into the electronics part of it.

Well I do not know what actual top speed is, but I have got up to 138. Maybe I will try higher with higher rated tires.

I disagree with hemidakota. I've had my 04 Hemi-Sport up to 112mph. The only reason I didn't go faster was the traffic I came up on.
