Running Hot
I have a 528 crate hemi that runs hot 190-210 degrees while driving. I have installed a 4 core cross flow alum radiator. Plugged the by pass in the water pump, replaced and removed the stat. new hoses, an under drive pulley, and distilled water with Gunk liquid cool and I still run hot, Any one have a suggestion. The factory claims this engine should run around 175-180 deg
I have several ideas to throw your direction:
- Is the carb possibly too lean?
- Is the timing too retarded?
- Is your climate particularly hot?
- Has the engine been broken in?
- Is the fan shroud a good one?
Review some of those and see if they could
be any part of the problem. Some folks tell
me that 190-210 may not really be too hot,
and others think it may not be broken in yet.

Hot hemi
I went to a double pass radiator with a flex fan and shroud and it seems to be alot better, but still not perfect!

The combination of the shroud ,flex fan and NO stat with the by pass plugged in the water pump , now it runs ,160-170 at an idle!!!!!!!!!

Re: Running Hot
Ever wonder why new engines run 300,000 miles without using oil etc? Ever notice the temp gauge on a new car stays at 210 degrees? That is PART of why they last longer.
